Trauma in the Pews: The Impact on Faith and Spiritual Practices
JanyneMcConnaughey (2022)
- A unique book in that she has a broadly Christian perspective (more “faith based” than Christian) and a lot of experiences in church.
- Her unique insights come from her own trauma, her extensive training (somatic/EMDR etc.), and her experiences of Foster’s model of “disciplines”.
- The goal of the book is to find a way that the traumatized can do most of the disciplines in some form or other without being damaged.
- Weakness: She says “It is tragic when the abused believe they were so bad that God needed to kill his son to save them from eternal hell.” She is also an open-theist, believing God is not in control or he would be to blame.
